Nelly Korda opened up Thursday’s round of golf at the 2024 Paris Olympics in hopes of making up some ground on the leaderboard.
The No. 1 golfer in the world did that, but also left some swings and putts out there at the same time.
Korda rebounded from a seven on a Par 16 No. 16 at Le Golf National with a birdie on No. 18 to finish two-under par after Thursday’s second round of golf. She is tied for 12th with Team USA teammate Rose Zhang at two-under par.

While Korda remains not far off the podium heading into Friday’s third round, the defending gold medalist will need to re-find the momentum she had in the Front 9 on Thursday if she wants a chance at playing for a medal on Saturday.

“Unfortunate that I played 16 holes of such solid golf, felt really good out there and the wind was just off my left,” Korda told Golf Channel following her round on what happened on No. 16 Thursday. “I didn’t hit my nine iron that great. I was between my pitching wedge and nine iron and went with the longer club.
” … Can’t explain the wedge shot, just was a really bad wedge shot. … Little bit of a disastrous hole. … If this would have happened on the fourth day, I would be really really heartbroken but I know I have 36 more holes to make something happen.”
She heads into Friday’s Round 3 six strokes behind Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux, who leads the leaderboard at 8-under par.
Here’s how Korda performed Thursday in the second round of golf at the Olympics, including his scorecard from Wednesday’s opening round:

Korda teed off at 5:55 a.m. ET in Thursday’s second round of golf at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She is paired with Jin Young Ko (Republic of Korea) and Ruoning Yin (China).
Korda shot a two-under-par in Thursday’s second round of golf at the 2024 Paris Olympics to put her at two-under par through the first two rounds. However, Korda left some golf out there on Thursday as she scored a seven on the Par 3 Hole 16, which included hitting her tee shot into the water. Prior to No. 16, Korda was at 6-under par and tied for second place.
Her struggles on No. 16 at Le Golf National Thursday canceled out a strong Front 9, where she shot 4-under par across the first nine holes alone.
